I was expecting someone more confrontational said Emily to her colleague who had stood back as she dealt with their customer in their small antique shop situated down a side street. the poor man, he looked quite defeated when you told him the price of that diamond bracelet, said Emily’s colleague Jean. Diamond anniversary? could be agreed Jean. I wonder he didn’t try to bargain though, if he wanted the bracelet so bad. He didn’t look wealthy or even comfortably well off, mused Emily, well, he might come back, suggested Jean. That bracelet has been hard to shift since it arrived, Emily remarked. Yes, and the owner, now that gentleman was certainly confrontational, Jean remembered. He seemed to think it was worth a lot more then we were willing to pay. Emily thought back and the confrontation came back to her. the owner said it had belonged to his Great grandmother. A wedding present from her wealthy father. Emily turned to Jean, the owner defended the bracelet like it were the crown jewels. I think he did not want to sell but maybe had to. Yes, could be, agreed Jean. the language he used was far from gentlemanly, there is a big story there I think.
