Being called into the boss’s office produced a large amount of anxiety, there had been whispered rumours of redundancies, people sent to other departments, what was in store for me? Charles was very cordial when I entered his office, he asked if I enjoyed working for the company, how long I had been working in my department, I replied, keeping anxiety out of my voice. Seeming satisfied with my answers, he moved on, we are streamlining the company, making it more efficient in the process. I can offer you a new position in another department, we want you to head a new programme within this department, eventually we would move this department to our branch in New York, say within a year, you would to move with the programme for at least three or four years  We need total commitment foe those years, salary would not be much ten now. He sat back in his chair, stared at me, I stared back, what if I refuse this offer, I asked. Well Selene, we would have to let you go  I had a chat with Michael  he is more then willing to take your place  very eager in fact. Michael does not have my experienc, I stated. Take what’s on offer or go, Charles said, dismissing me. I was in a dilemma for the rest of the day.  Next morning I phoned head office, they said I did have an option not to take the promotion, that the programme was not moving to New York whether I accepted or not. When Charles was contacted he totally denied what had been said.
