A Room

Mothers china cabinet stood

Where the old mahogany cabinet my aunt

Insisted gifting mum now stands

Cluttered with ornaments and glass ware.

Our pale second hand two seater sofa and chairs

were arranged against other walls.

Underneath the large window on a small table

My brothers three in one system, record player, cassette player, radio,

Which my mum brought to life each morning.

The floor underneath this table was home to Tapes, LP’s.

The large screen TV stood near, replacing the radio sounds

When evening descended.

Our mantle piece was also cluttered with ornaments.

Among them yet another clock made of  fake gold

Had pride of place in the centre, its glass dome held

A dancing ballerina.

Underneath the mantle piece a gas fire was placed in the grate

Where once coal fires burned.
