The boat was a new place to explore
For children and teenagers.
We leaned over the rails
Felt the sea spray on our faces.
We ran down corridors
Peeked into cabins
Sneaked down narrow corridors
Where we had no business
We thought ourselves explorers.
Landed in the Isle of Man
We surveyed our surroundings.
Over looking the Harbour
On a hill stood brightly coloured houses.
Walking through the town
Going into shops
A strange but friendly accent greeted us.
Our exploring was curtailed by decampment
To the nearest pub.
Our stomachs told us it was time to eat
The smell of kippers our connection with home.
