Henry Street

The buskers were playing
For the shoppers
I noticed a bopper.
Grey hair
Grey beard.
He danced as though without a care
I do not know if he was drunk.
He had no inhibitions
As he enjoyed the musicians
Clapping hands to the beat.
Further down the street
Was another man
Top hat
With the sound of George Formby
The audience he regaled.
He tapped danced to the song of romance.
On this scene the April sun shone
A Dublinet I was proud to be.
I thought of the Irish far away
What they would give to witness that scene today.
The street artist drew a picture of
Christ holding a heart
Of Dublin these people are so much a part.
Their stage and canvas is the street
Their roof is the sky.
They give so much
Do not let their art die.
